A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR JOHN MCKISSICK, OF SUMMERVILLE, THE "WINNINGEST FOOTBALL COACH AT ANY LEVEL" AND A LEGEND FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TOWARD SHAPING GENERATIONS OF YOUNG MEN INTO WINNERS IN BOTH SPORTS AND LIFE.

Whereas, after almost six decades at the helm of the mighty Green Wave of Summerville High School, football coach John McKissick has logged more than 500 victories, making him the only coach in the long history of the sport at any level--high school, college, or pro--to pass the formidable five-hundred win mark; and

Whereas, more than just a football coach, John McKissick teaches his players life lessons, making sure they understand that one pays a price to maintain success. As he puts it, success "takes hard work...[and] perseverance; to keep trying. In football, you get knocked down a lot; in life, you get knocked down, but you've got to get back up."; and

Whereas, three generations of players and indeed the entire community of Summerville consider Coach McKissick the glue that holds the town together because of the vital part he has played in forming connections in the town. He has molded more than three thousand teenage boys into players over the years and instilled pride in tens of thousands of Summerville High School students, cheerleaders, band members, teachers, and parents, as well as provided excitement for countless football fans, who have turned out ten thousand strong, in their green and gold, every Friday night in the fall for six decades; and

Whereas, the "Baron of Summerville," as Coach McKissick is known, is a state treasure, and the South Carolina Senate takes great pleasure in congratulating him on a long and successful career and on his unique achievements in the field of football. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor John McKissick, of Summerville, the "winningest football coach at any level" and a legend for his contributions toward shaping generations of young men into winners in both sports and life.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach John McKissick.
