VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE GILBERT HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the Gilbert High School baseball team defeated Dillon 6-2 on Friday, May 16, 2008, to capture the 2008 Class AA State Championship title; and
Whereas, Coach Ashley Burnett and his assistant coaches, Jimmy Frost, Tradd Denny, and John Berrian, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their baseball program into a championship team; and
Whereas, championship play demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as teamwork and good sportsmanship; and
Whereas, using these talents and attributes, the team, sporting an excellent 26-5 season record, showed fans and foes alike that the Indians' grabbing of this victory, their second state championship in three years, was not a lucky accident; and
Whereas, adding luster to an already stellar season, Desmond Kennedy, Adam Spires, and Kyle Owings were named All-State, and Christopher Owings was named All-State Player of the Year, while Coach Burnett was named AA Coach of the Year and head coach of the North AA/AAA All-Star team; and
Whereas, the Indians have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young men. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Gilbert High School baseball team for its outstanding season and for capturing the 2008 Class AA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Ann O'Cain and Coach Ashley Burnett, of Gilbert High School.
