A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE ELEANOR AND RICHARD CRAWFORD, OF AIKEN COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR FIFTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF BLESSING AND FULFILLMENT TOGETHER.

Whereas, in a time when faithfulness to marriage vows is eschewed, the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that Eleanor and Richard Crawford will reach the benchmark of fifty years of wedded fidelity on June 7, 2008; and

Whereas, married in Aiken on June 7, 1958, the Crawfords lived in Georgia until 1965 when they moved to South Carolina, and they are residents of Burnettown; and

Whereas, together they raised three fine daughters with a clear set of values and with a sense of service and commitment, and these daughters have blessed them with four adoring grandchildren; and

Whereas, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Richard Crawford is a retired chemical plant supervisor and the past commander of the Barnard E. Bee Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans; and

Whereas, he has learned the veracity of the proverb, "Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord," and he considers one of his crowning achievements as having had the good sense to marry his beloved Eleanor, a retired nurse who served others selflessly throughout her noted career; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate acknowledge that no success authenticates a life as does a marriage that endures the test of time and that grows stronger with each passing year. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, honor and congratulate Eleanor and Richard Crawford, of Aiken County, upon the occasion of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, and extend best wishes for many more years of blessing and fulfillment together.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Eleanor and Richard Crawford.
