A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO CREATE A COMMITTEE TO EXAMINE THE LICENSE FEE THAT IS CHARGED FOR THE ISSUANCE OF A LIQUOR LICENSE FOR THE SUNDAY SALE OF ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES.

Whereas, it has come to the attention of the members of the General Assembly that the license fee for the sale of alcoholic beverages has become onerous on certain smaller establishments who wish to sell these beverages on Sunday; and

Whereas, a new method to issue these licenses needs to be examined to allow a more affordable way of issuing these licenses to smaller establishments. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    (A)    A study committee is established to examine the license fee that is charged for the issuance of a liquor license for the Sunday sale of alcoholic beverages.

(B)    The study committee is composed of six members of the General Assembly, of whom three must be members of the Senate appointed by the President Pro Tempore of the Senate and three must be members of the House of Representatives appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

(C)    The committee shall make a report to the General Assembly no later than April 15, 2007, at which time it is dissolved.

SECTION    2.    This joint resolution takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
