A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE DEATH OF COLONEL WILLIAM PAUL TALLON, JR., OF FLORENCE, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Colonel William Paul Tallon, Jr., of Florence passed away January 20, 2007, at the age of eighty six; and

Whereas, Colonel Tallon, born in Trenton, New Jersey, was a graduate of George Washington University where he received his master's degree; and

Whereas, he served in the United States Army with honor and distinction in World War II, the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, and the Cold War, having such important assignments as Deputy Commander of the John F. Kennedy Center for Military Assistance and Special Forces (Green Beret); and he also was a master parachutist; and

Whereas, after thirty-two years of dedicated military service, Colonel Tallon joined Francis Marion College (University) as Registrar and Assistant Professor of Political Science; following his retirement from Francis Marion in 1983, he was bestowed with the honorary title of Professor Emeritus; and

Whereas, upon moving to Florence, Colonel Tallon gave of his time and talents in service to the public through his diverse civic and community involvement, including membership in the Rotary Club, the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars; and

Whereas, Colonel Tallon, a man who encouraged others to become involved and informed in governmental matters, was himself instrumental in the establishment of the West Ebenezer Community Association; and

Whereas, as a faithful member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, he served on the Diocesan School Board and traveled throughout South Carolina in support of primary and secondary education in the state's Catholic schools; and

Whereas, in order to provide space for honoring veterans with a memorial befitting their service to this country, he worked tirelessly for five years with the organization For God and Country to expand the Florence National Cemetery; and

Whereas, Colonel Tallon, and his beloved wife, Margaret Muehleisen Tallon, were married for fifty-nine years and from this loving union were born seven children whom have blessed them with many grandchildren and great grandchildren, bringing the Colonel and Mrs. Tallon much joy and happiness throughout their lives; and

Whereas, it is proper and fitting for the members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations to recognize such an outstanding South Carolinian, as Colonel William Paul Tallon, Jr. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Colonel William Paul Tallon, Jr., of Florence, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Colonel Tallon's beloved wife of fifty-nine years, Mrs. Margaret Muehleisen Tallon.
