A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND HENRY CARTER, OF LEE COUNTY, FOR HIS TWENTY-THREE YEARS OF DEDICATED AND DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS A MEMBER OF THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS AND REGISTRATION, AND TO WISH HIM A REWARDING AND BENEFICIAL RETIREMENT AND MUCH SUCCESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Henry Carter has given tirelessly of himself in furtherance of the Lee County Board of Elections and Registration, serving on the board for the past twenty-three years; and

Whereas, Mr. Carter was appointed to the Lee County Registration Board by the Honorable Richard W. Riley on June 22, 1984; and

Whereas, he served on the board until January 1, 1999, at which time the Lee County Registration Board was dissolved, and the new Board of Elections and Registration was created; and

Whereas, Mr. Carter actively and faithfully continued to serve on the new board until March 31, 2007, at which time he retired after twenty-three years of dedicated and distinguished service; and

Whereas, while serving on the Lee County Board of Elections and Registration, his duties consisted of retaining poll managers for the precincts on election day, helping with poll manager training, and overseeing the counting of absentee ballots on election night, as well as, helping certify the election results; and

Whereas, Mr. Carter is a loving and caring husband to Patricia Carter and proud father of two sons, Tyrone and Le-Al; and

Whereas, he is a devout Christian and lifelong member of New Zion AME Church in Bishopville, South Carolina, where he serves on the Trustee Board and the Usher Board; and

Whereas, Mr. Carter has been self-employed and the proprietor of Carter's Liquor Store for the past thirty-three years, and he plans to continue working in his business and finding time to fulfill his favorite pastime of working in the yard after his retirement from the Lee County Board of Elections and Registration; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are proud to honor Henry Carter for his strong dedication and tremendous service to the State of South Carolina and Lee County for twenty-three years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend Henry Carter, of Lee County, for his twenty-three years of dedicated and distinguished service to the State of South Carolina upon his retirement as a member of the Lee County Board of Elections and Registration, and wish him a rewarding and beneficial retirement and much success in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Henry Carter.
