A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND A WARM WELCOME AND BEST WISHES FOR A SUCCESSFUL VISIT TO OUR FRIENDS FROM THE RODDENSVALE SPECIAL SCHOOL CHOIR, LARNE, NORTHERN IRELAND, PARTICIPATING IN THE SCHOOLS EXCHANGE PROGRAMME IN COOPERATION WITH YORK COUNTY.

Whereas, beginning April 21, 2007, York County will host the choir of the Roddensvale Special School, Larne, Northern Ireland, in a week-long visit of musical ambassadorship to South Carolina; and

Whereas, during this period of time, these students and their accompanying faculty, parents, and other chaperones will be traveling all over South Carolina and performing in numerous settings; and

Whereas, this program provides many positive learning experiences and presents opportunities for the participants from both countries to enjoy cultural exchanges that otherwise might not be available to them; and

Whereas, a valued resource in teaching respect and tolerance for cultures differing from ours, the program will help bond friendships that could not happen without this cooperative effort; and

Whereas, this program will allow our neighbors from Northern Ireland to enjoy the many fine attractions our State has to offer and will enable them to experience the kindness and hospitality for which the citizens of South Carolina are known worldwide; and

Whereas, York County's Schools Exchange Programme is an outstanding model for other counties in our State to emulate; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina wish to thank the participants who make this program possible and hope for its continued success for many years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend a warm welcome and best wishes for a successful visit to our friends from the Roddensvale Special School choir, of Larne, Northern Ireland, participating in the Schools Exchange Programme in cooperation with York County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the principal of Roddensvale Special School, John Madden, and the school's vice principal and choir director, Mrs. Millar.
