VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE THE MAULDIN HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS TEAM, OF GREENVILLE COUNTY, ON ITS FIRST-PLACE DIVISION FINISH AND THIRD-PLACE OVERALL FINISH IN THE 2007 FIRST WORLD ROBOTICS CHAMPIONSHIP EVENT.
Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to note that the Mauldin High School robotics team, of Greenville County, captured first-place division finish and third-place overall finish in the 2007 FIRST World Robotics championship event; and
Whereas, a unique varsity sport of the mind, the FIRST Robotics Championship is designed to help high-school-aged young people discover how interesting and rewarding the lives of engineers and researchers can be; and
Whereas, combining the excitement of sport with science and technology, the competition stages short games played by remote-controlled robots that are designed and built in six weeks by a team of fifteen to twenty-five high school students and a handful of engineers serving as mentors; and
Whereas, participating students, showing their skill at piloting the robots on the field, move through regional competitions to the national level to compete for the top prize and other awards; and
Whereas, in the process of preparing for and competing in FIRST Robotics Championship events, these young people learn the value of teamwork and the role of science and technology in everyday life; increase their self-confidence, their motivation to do well in school, and their interest in serving others; and enjoy a fun-filled, engaging experience that offers opportunities to take on real responsibilities; and
Whereas, team members speak to many groups each year about the FIRST robotics program and inspire numerous young people to consider careers in engineering, thus helping fellow teens discover a rewarding and profitable career pathway they might not otherwise have found. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Mauldin High School robotics team, of Greenville County, on its first-place division finish and third-place overall finish in the 2007 FIRST World Robotics Championship event.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Mauldin High School robotics team.
