VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW UPON THE TRAGIC DEATHS OF THE NINE CITY OF CHARLESTON FIREFIGHTERS WHO PERISHED IN THE LINE OF DUTY ON JUNE 18, 2007, TO EXTEND SINCERE SYMPATHY TO THEIR GRIEVING FAMILIES AND FRIENDS, AND TO COMMEND THESE BRAVE FIREFIGHTERS FOR THEIR COURAGEOUS SERVICE TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn that nine City of Charleston firefighters tragically perished in the line of duty on June 18, 2007, in West Ashley; and
Whereas, Captain William "Billy" Hutchinson, Captain Mike Benke, Captain Louis Mulkey, Engineer Mark Kelsey, Engineer Bradford "Brad" Baity, Assistant Engineer Michael French, Firefighter James "Earl" Drayton, Firefighter Brandon Thompson, and Firefighter Melvin Champaign of the City of Charleston Fire Department made the ultimate sacrifice while courageously serving the citizens of the Palmetto State, and will be sorely missed by their families and friends; and
Whereas, these brave men daily offered their skills and passion to selflessly protect the lives and property of the citizens of Charleston, and truly deserve the greatest praise and admiration of all South Carolinians; and
Whereas, the critical public service provided by the firefighters of this state often go unheralded by many in the course of their busy lives, and the tragic deaths of these Charleston firefighters should cause every person in this State to reflect deeply on the tremendous risks firefighters face when answering a call to protect the public. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the tragic deaths of the nine City of Charleston firefighters who perished in the line of duty on June 18, 2007, extend sincere sympathy to their grieving families and friends, and honor these brave firefighters for their courageous service to the people of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the beloved families of these nine courageous firefighters and to the fellow firefighters at the City of Charleston Fire Department.
