A BILL

TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 59-101-286 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT NO VOTING MEMBER OF THE GOVERNING BOARD OF A PUBLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING IN THIS STATE MAY BE OFFERED OR ACCEPT A POSITION OF EMPLOYMENT WITH THE INSTITUTION WHILE A MEMBER OF THE GOVERNING BOARD AND FOR A PERIOD OF FOUR YEARS AFTER HE CEASES TO BE A MEMBER OF THE GOVERNING BOARD.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Chapter 101, Title 59 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:

"Section 59-101-286.    No voting member of the governing board of a public institution of higher learning in this State, as defined in Section 59-105-5, may be offered or accept a position of employment with the institution while a member of the governing board and for a period of four years after he ceases to be a member of the governing board."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
