INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS

To whom was referred a House Resolution (H. 4417) recognizing Hillcrest High School's perfect 2007 volleyball season and the Lady Rams' second consecutive AAAA State Championship, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

A HOUSE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING HILLCREST HIGH SCHOOL'S PERFECT 2007 VOLLEYBALL SEASON AND THE LADY RAMS' SECOND CONSECUTIVE AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the Hillcrest High School Lady Rams of Simpsonville posted a perfect 26-0 record in AAAA volleyball for the 2007 season; and

Whereas, that final win was a 25-23 victory over the Wando Warriors for the second consecutive AAAA state volleyball title earned by the Rams; and

Whereas, the defending champions, coached by perennial Region 2-AAAA Coach of the Year Lynn Avant, used the stellar talents and court experience of their seven seniors to breeze through the 2007 playoffs, winning the Upper State title in three games over Dorman High School, before hanging on to the State crown with three straight wins over Wando; and

Whereas, the Lady Rams' All-State setter, senior Ashley Marshall, led the team in its win for the second straight championship with 17 assists and 13 kills. All-State middle hitter Kelly Kirby, also one of the graduating seniors, had 16 assists and 14 kills; and All-Region senior Laura Jeroszko, contributed 8 kills to the victory; and

Whereas, Tina Shelly and Kristen Potts also were tapped for the All-Region team; and

Whereas, while the repeat as State AAAA Volleyball champs for 2007 was the fulfillment of expectations raised by the 2006 title and the return of the seven seniors, it was nonetheless sweet - perhaps bittersweet in that it was the last time the senior seven would play together; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is always proud to recognize the outstanding athletic champions of this State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize Hillcrest High School's perfect 2007 volleyball season and the Lady Rams' second consecutive AAAA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Lynn Avant and the Lady Rams Volleyball team.
