A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR THE SACRIFICIAL SERVICE OF SPECIALIST CHARLES MESSER, OF FORT LAWN, TO EXPRESS PROFOUND SORROW UPON HIS DEATH, AND TO EXTEND DEEP SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, Specialist Charles Messer was born on April 2, 1987, and while in rehabilitation for an injury sustained in Iraq, died tragically on December 22, 2007, in an automobile accident; and

Whereas, while serving his nation heroically in Iraq, far from the comforts of hearth and home in South Carolina, Specialist Messer sustained serious injury to his arm when an improvised explosive device attacked the Humvee in which he was riding; and

Whereas, he received the Army's commendation medal for his service while in rehabilitation and has been nominated for the Purple Heart as well; and

Whereas, Specialist Messer's contagious enthusiasm infected those who served around him, and his motivation to serve his country loyally in every mission will remain a source of encouragement to those who knew him and served with him. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives honor the sacrificial service of Specialist Charles Messer, of Fort Lawn, express profound sorrow upon his death, and extend deep sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the family of Specialist Charles Messer.
