A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE DR. SCOTT D. COHEN, A MEMBER OF THE MEDICAL STAFF AT MCLEOD MEDICAL CENTER-DILLON, FOR HIS WORK IN THE FIELD OF SURGICAL UROLOGY UPON HIS INCLUSION AS A CONTRIBUTING AUTHOR IN THE MEDICAL MALPRACTICE SURVIVAL HANDBOOK.

Whereas, Dr. Scott D. Cohen joined the medical staff of McLeod Medical Center-Dillon on September 1, 2005, and brought his keen expertise, advanced training, and years of experience in surgical urology; and

Whereas, Scott Cohen, M.D., J.D., F.C.L.M., is a native of Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, received his medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, and completed his residencies at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield; and

Whereas, the American College of Legal Medicine (ACLM) listed Dr. Cohen as a contributing author in its first Medical Malpractice Survival Handbook, published in 2007; and

Whereas, the ACLM, a community of healthcare and legal professionals, is the official organization for professionals who focus on the important issues where law and medicine converge; and

Whereas, the Medical Malpractice Survival Handbook of the ACLM is written specifically for physicians and other healthcare providers to educate them in the area of medical-legal affairs; and

Whereas, the Medical Malpractice Survival Handbook is authored primarily by medical doctors who have practiced in their medical or surgical specialties all their lives, and who qualify to deal with this complicated issue, by virtue of being attorneys at law; and

Whereas, the inclusion of Dr. Scott D. Cohen as a contributing author of the Medical Malpractice Survival Handbook speaks of his expertise in surgical urology and his commitment to his colleagues who face the intricacies of the courts of law. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Dr. Scott D. Cohen, a member of the medical staff at McLeod Medical Center-Dillon, for his work in the field of surgical urology upon his inclusion as a contributing author in the Medical Malpractice Survival Handbook.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Dr. Scott D. Cohen.
