A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE PASTOR NATHANIEL HARPER, SR., FOR TWENTY-SIX YEARS OF FRUITFUL SERVICE TO ZION PILGRIM BAPTIST CHURCH, IN WINNSBORO, AND TO WISH HIM MANY MORE YEARS OF BLESSING IN THE SERVICE OF HIS LORD.

Whereas, Pastor Nathaniel Harper and Ruth, his beloved wife of forty-four years, came to Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church in 1981 with their three children, Nathaniel, Jr., Zina, and Travis; and

Whereas, in his first two years of service, he added to his copious duties when he organized a Wednesday night Bible study, oversaw the remodeling of several parts of the church buildings, and ordained one new deacon and three church trustees; and

Whereas, in 1985, under the continuing and inspiring leadership of Pastor Harper, the church's missionary department began to grow by establishing a neighborhood Bible study, men's fellowship, prison ministry, and nursing home ministry; and

Whereas, over the past two and a half decades, Pastor Harper has not only guided the spiritual growth and development of his devout congregation, but he has also helped bring numerous members to service in the church through their ordination as deacons and as church trustees; and

Whereas, through the able leadership of Pastor Harper and the dedicated efforts of his clergy, staff, and congregation, Zion has brought to fruition many new and innovative programs in the ministry department, reaching out to myriad church members and neighbors, and has undertaken many renovations and new construction of church buildings, providing Zion's burgeoning congregation, programs, and services with modern, new, and efficient church facililties; and

Whereas, Pastor Harper also has extended the ministries of the church to include the Habitat for Humanity community, participating in the construction of a home in Arthurtown Village, and farther with a mission project in Africa that led to the completion of the Kamukuywa Church; and

Whereas, in his twenty-six years of ministry at Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, Pastor Harper has been dedicated and deliberate in his service to his church and, in doing so, has been careful to follow his Lord's admonition, found in Proverbs 27:23 (KJV), "Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks." Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Pastor Nathaniel Harper, Sr., for twenty-six years of fruitful service to Zion Pilgrim Baptist Church, in Winnsboro, and wish him many more years of blessing in the service of his Lord.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Pastor Nathaniel Harper, Sr.
