A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND HEARTIEST CONGRATULATIONS TO REPRESENTATIVE ROBERT E. "BOB" WALKER OF LANDRUM UPON HIS INDUCTION INTO THE SOUTH CAROLINA AVIATION HALL OF FAME AS "AVIATOR OF THE YEAR" IN RECOGNITION OF HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN AND SUPPORT FOR THE FIELD OF AVIATION.

Whereas, Representative Robert E. "Bob" Walker of Landrum is one of the most distinguished members of the House of Representatives having earned the respect and admiration of friends and colleagues alike for his service in the House and for his chairmanship of the House Education and Public Works Committee; and

Whereas, Bob Walker also is a successful real estate and insurance broker in Spartanburg County who is a highly regarded business and civic leader throughout the Upstate of South Carolina; and

Whereas, in addition to his business and legislative responsibilities, one of Bob Walker's passions has always been flying. Whenever possible, he continues to fly to Columbia each week during the General Assembly's session to attend to his legislative duties and uses his plane for many other professional and government endeavors throughout the year; and

Whereas, Bob Walker learned to fly while an ROTC cadet at the University of South Carolina under the watchful eyes of South Carolina Aviation Hall of Famers Frances Miller and Sylvia Roth. In 1966, he was commissioned as an officer and pilot in the United States Air Force, a role for which he has received much recognition and several commendations; and

Whereas, elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1993, he has been a tireless proponent of general aviation in South Carolina. In 2003, he sponsored the legislation reestablishing the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission and also sponsored legislation lowering the property tax assessment ratio on aircraft; and

Whereas, Bob Walker's dedication to aviation has truly had a lasting impact on South Carolina's aviation community; and

Whereas, in honor of his accomplishments in and support for the field of aviation, he will be inducted into the South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame as "Aviator of the Year" on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the South Carolina Aviation Association Conference in Hilton Head; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame was inaugurated in 1991 to honor outstanding contributors to aviation in South Carolina. It now includes sixty-one aviation enthusiasts, made up of fifty-five men and six women; and

Whereas, his receipt of this truly deserved honor is a fitting tribute to this outstanding South Carolinian who has done so much not only for the field of aviation but for the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend heartiest congratulations to Representative Robert E. "Bob" Walker of Landrum upon his induction into the South Carolina Aviation Hall of Fame as "Aviator of the Year" in recognition of his accomplishments in and support for the field of aviation.
