A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CAPTAIN ALAN BROOKS ALLISON, OF THE GAFFNEY CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT, FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA AND TO HIS COUNTRY.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina General Assembly honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great state's citizenry; and

Whereas, Captain Alan Brooks Allison, of the Gaffney City Police Department, has given many years of dedicated service to the State of South Carolina and to his country as a policeman and member of the nation's armed forces; and

Whereas, a graduate of the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, Captain Allison also received training at the FBI South Carolina Command College. In further preparation for service, he was certified by the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy as a specific skills instructor; and

Whereas, having advanced through the ranks, he has served for more than twenty-one years as a certified (class 1) police officer, and two years as a reserve officer, division captain (uniform). He has been captain of patrol division for nine years; and

Whereas, in his twenty-eight-year military career, multiple medals have borne witness to the value of his efforts, awarded by every branch of the armed services in which he has served, the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force; and

Whereas, for Captain Allison's most recent achievement medal, conferred by the United States Air Force for his work in 2007 while serving in Afghanistan, he was cited for outstanding achievement as an aerospace maintenance craftsman. The citation, speaking of Captain Allison in his capacity as an air force staff sergeant, praises his technical skills as "absolutely pivotal" and "outstanding" and his coordination skills as "superb"; and

Whereas, recognizing his excellence as a police officer, Captain Allison's Gaffney peers selected him Officer of the Year, and his fellow citizens voted him Cherokee County's Best Officer; and
