VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND CORPORAL ADAM R. HOLMQUIST, UNITED STATES MARINE CORPS, ON THE AWARDING OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL FOR HIS HEROIC ACTION IN COMBAT DURING OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, AND TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO HIM ON BEHALF OF OUR GRATEFUL STATE.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take distinct pride in learning of the valor exhibited by heroic members of the United States Armed Services, particularly, when those who display such courage are citizens of this great State; and
Whereas, Marine Corporal Adam Holmquist was serving as the Special Equipment Non-Commissioned Officer, First Platoon, Company B, Second Reconnaissance Battalion, Regimental Combat Team Five, First Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) in Iraq on May 17, 2006; and
Whereas, on that date, a platoon was conducting a raid on an insurgent safe-house when a reconnaissance team entered a small compound and immediately came under intense enemy fire; and
Whereas, Corporal Holmquist responded without delay and provided fire cover that enabled one Marine to escape who had been pinned down by enemy fire, but two other Marines lay wounded inside, unable to extricate themselves; and
Whereas, after volunteering to attempt their recovery, he led the entry and provided accurate suppressive fire on the enemy, which allowed one Marine to be recovered; and
Whereas, when the team withdrew and reorganized, Corporal Holmquist, without regard for his personal safety, led the team again to locate the remaining Marine, advanced under intense fire and smoke, and pulled his comrade to safety; and
Whereas, Corporal Holmquist's courageous actions and dedication to duty and to his unit reflect great credit upon himself and exhibit the time-honored traditions of the Marine Corps. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Corporal Adam R. Holmquist, United States Marine Corps, on the awarding of the Bronze Star Medal for his heroic action in combat during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and express appreciation to him on behalf of our grateful State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to
Corporal Adam R. Holmquist.
