VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE MRS. MARGARET LLOYD, OF KERSHAW COUNTY, ON BEING NAMED 2007 SOUTH CAROLINA WILDLIFE FEDERATION CONSERVATIONIST OF THE YEAR, AND TO EXPRESS THE APPRECIATION OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES FOR HER CONTINUED GENEROSITY AS A BENEFACTOR OF THE PALMETTO STATE.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the House of Representatives recognizes individuals who are dedicated to forwarding the welfare of this great State's citizenry; and
Whereas, Mrs. Margaret Lloyd, of Kershaw County, stands among their number as an outstanding public benefactor, one who has many times over proven her friendship to the people of South Carolina in areas as diverse as the arts, preservation of historic landmarks, and conservation of our natural resources; and
Whereas, Mrs. Lloyd is an author and an advocate for the interdependence of humans and nature and the importance of working with, not against, nature or as she expresses it, "making connections" to the natural world; and
Whereas, in acknowledgment of her ardent commitment to conservation, Mrs. Lloyd recently was named 2007 South Carolina Wildlife Federation Conservationist of the Year; and
Whereas, through her donation in 2006 of eight hundred fifty-three acres of land on the Wateree River, a tract known as Hard Scramble, South Carolina in partnership with Clemson University will be home to a world-class environmental education center and to an international model for green residential development. Moreover, at least seven hundred acres of undeveloped prime riverfront property will be under a conservation easement, helping to ensure the health and beauty of the Wateree River, one of the area's most treasured natural resources; and
Whereas, in addition, Mrs. Lloyd has contributed two million dollars to move forward the implementation of her vision for the Hard Scramble tract; and
Whereas, she will be presented with the award at a special reception on Monday, February 11, 2008, in Camden surrounded by her friends and admirers; and
Whereas, this honor is a fitting tribute to Margaret Lloyd, a philanthropist with a high dedication to her calling equaling the eminence of the award, and the House of Representatives is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize Mrs. Lloyd as its recipient. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Mrs. Margaret Lloyd, of Kershaw County, on being named 2007 South Carolina Wildlife Federation Conservationist of the Year, and express the appreciation of the South Carolina House of Representatives for her continued generosity as a benefactor of the Palmetto State.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mrs. Margaret Lloyd.
