A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MATTHEW ALEXANDER, OF YORK COUNTY, FOR HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR EARNING THE EAGLE SCOUT AWARD, THE HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT IN SCOUTING.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Matthew Alexander, the son of Susan and Roland Alexander, is the third of three brothers to complete the requirements for the Eagle Scout award; and

Whereas, a recipient of the Arrow of Light award as a Cub Scout while a member of Pack 250 in Fort Mill, Matthew planned and supervised the construction of a nature trail that spans several hundred yards for Springfield Middle School to fulfill requirements for Eagle Scout; and

Whereas, a bridge and sitting area for students were also built along the path, and the trail now serves as an outdoor classroom for the students of the middle school; and

Whereas, a member of the Fort Mill marching band program as a freshman and sophomore when the band won two consecutive state titles, Matthew also has excelled in the classroom while taking courses for advanced placement and on the honors level throughout high school; and

Whereas, he has played in the Fort Mill High School Wind Symphony for four years and joined the school's Jazz Band his senior year; and

Whereas, a senior at Fort Mill High School, Matthew plans to attend Clemson University in the fall where he wants to major in business and minor in a foreign language; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives wish to commend Matthew Alexander for his Boy Scout endeavors, which completed his requirements for Eagle Scout in February 2008. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Matthew Alexander, of York County, for his accomplishments in the Boy Scouts of America, and congratulate him for earning the Eagle Scout award, the highest achievement in Scouting.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Matthew Alexander.
