VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTHSIDE HIGH SCHOOL BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM, OF GREENVILLE COUNTY, FOR A WINNING SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACHES FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that the Southside High School boys varsity basketball team had a stellar season and took the state championship title for Class AA; and
Whereas, on March 1, 2008, the Southside Tigers defeated Burke High School to win the state championship game 73-53 at the Carolina Coliseum; and
Whereas, with a successful season of twenty-seven wins and only two losses, the Southside High School varsity team had three players named all-tournament players: K. C. Chambers, Tony Freeman, and Quinton Thomas; and
Whereas, junior Robbie Dreher's contributions were well rewarded when he was named the most valuable player of the championship game; and
Whereas, although the Tigers will lose three seniors at graduation, K. C. Chambers, Tony Freeman, and Joe McKinney, they seem poised for another outstanding season next year; and
Whereas, in a game that requires speed, agility, and skill, veteran Coach Louie Golden and Assistant Coach B. J. Jackson have used their athletic ability and experience to forge a championship basketball team; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to pause in their deliberations to honor the success of the Southside High School boys varsity basketball team for winning the 2008 State Championship title. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the members of the Southside High School boys varsity basketball team, of Greenville County, for a winning season, and congratulate the players and their coaches for capturing the 2008 Class AA State Championship title.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Paulette Payne, Principal of Southside High School, and Coach Louie Golden.
