A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND PASTOR EDDIE W. DAVIS, OF RICHLAND COUNTY, FOR HIS FAITHFUL SERVICE TO LITTLE ZION BAPTIST CHURCH, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM AND HIS CONGREGATION FOR TWENTY-FIVE YEARS OF MINISTRY TOGETHER.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that on March 20, 2008, Pastor Eddie W. Davis will celebrate twenty-five years of service at Little Zion Baptist Church; and

Whereas, born in Hopkins, the eleventh of thirteen children, Eddie W. Davis followed the faith of his parents, Deacon Jerry Davis, Sr., and Annis Canty Davis; and

Whereas, he proudly served his country with distinction in the United States Air Force and his State in the South Carolina Air National Guard; and

Whereas, Pastor Davis earned a bachelor's degree in theology from Morris College and received further training in theology from Columbia International University; and

Whereas, Pastor Davis was licensed and ordained in Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Hopkins under the leadership of Reverend Blakely Scott; and

Whereas, since 1983 when he came to Little Zion Baptist Church, Pastor Davis has seen six ministers licensed and nine deacons ordained in the church, including the licensing of the first female minister and the appointment of the first female Sunday school superintendent; and

Whereas, in 2005, the church elected the first female trustees, and by 2008, all three had assumed the top offices among the trustees; and

Whereas, attendance for the expanded Sunday school ministry and Bible study have increased, and Pastor Davis has implemented a program called Family Fellowship and an intergenerational Bible study to minister specifically to families; and

Whereas, Pastor Davis has supervised the maintenance, beautification, and expansion of the buildings, including the purchase of a building for the purpose of opening a day care center in 1987 which now includes a kindergarten with plans for development into a full elementary school; and

Whereas, the Recognition, Education and Scholarship Ministry began in 2006 to promote higher education for high school graduates, and a scholarship award was named to honor Deacon Earnest Canty, Sr., for his dedication to education that is both Christian and academic; and

Whereas, his loving and strong wife, Shirley Davis shares his passion for seeing children brought "up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord" (Ephesians 6:4) and, therefore, has instituted a ministry of grandparents to grandchildren; and

Whereas, Pastor Davis and his beloved wife reared three fine children, Pastor Eric Davis, Kimberly Davis Brunson, and Trenton Davis, during their twenty-five years at Little Zion Baptist Church, and they now enjoy four adoring grandchildren; and

Whereas, he is also the past chairman of the Commission on Education for the Gethsemane Baptist Association and is currently the vice president of Blythewood Ministers Alliance; and

Whereas, Pastor Davis is the co-founder and co-owner of three nonprofit organizations: Our Daily Bread Human Resource Center, Alternative USA, and Beyond the Door; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to honor Pastor Eddie W. Davis as Saint Paul admonished in I Timothy 5:17, "Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine." Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and commend Pastor Eddie W. Davis, of Richland County, for his faithful service to Little Zion Baptist Church, and congratulate him and his congregation for twenty-five years of ministry together.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pastor Eddie W. Davis.
