A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND IRMO HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PITCHER KIERSTYN WHITE FOR AN IMPRESSIVE SOFTBALL CAREER, AND TO CONGRATULATE HER FOR ACHIEVING THE MILESTONE OF ONE THOUSAND STRIKEOUTS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Kierstyn White, of Irmo High School, had pitched one thousand strikeouts against a myriad of rivals; and

Whereas, on March 11, 2008, senior Kierstyn White pitched her one thousandth strikeout for the Irmo Yellow Jackets softball team at a home game against the visiting Aiken Hornets; and

Whereas, to the delight of fans and chagrin of rivals, Kierstyn delivered the momentous pitch when the third strike was called in the top of the third inning; and

Whereas, the game was halted to mark the occasion when Irmo fans released a sky full of black and yellow balloons beyond the fence in right field, which proved ominous for the Aiken Hornets; and

Whereas, in the previous four games she started, Kierstyn returned forty-five opponents to the dugout, and on March 11 she delivered a five-inning no-hitter in the Irmo 11-1 victory over Aiken; and

Whereas, Coach Dawn Rister knew that the pitcher was nearing the milestone and pulled her from pitching an away game against South Aiken the day before, so Irmo fans would have the opportunity to toast her accomplishment at home; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives celebrate with Kierstyn White on reaching the milestone of pitching one thousand strikeouts. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Irmo High School senior pitcher Kierstyn White for an impressive softball career, and congratulate her for achieving the milestone of one thousand strikeouts.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Kierstyn White.
