A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS APPRECIATION TO MR. STEVEN "DOC" REHM FOR HIS EIGHT YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTER AND SCOUTMASTER OF BOY SCOUT TROOP 850 IN MYRTLE BEACH.

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to note that Mr. Steven "Doc" Rehm, of Horry County, has rendered eight years of dedicated service, four as assistant scoutmaster and, more recently, four as scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 850, sponsored for forty years by St. Philip's Lutheran Church ELCA in Myrtle Beach; and

Whereas, Doc Rehm began his journey in scouting when his older son, also called Steven, became a Tiger Cub in the fall of 1995. The senior Steven and his wife, Nancy, served as den leaders from 1995 to 2001, during which time their younger son, Parker, also became a Tiger Cub; and

Whereas, during his subsequent eight years of service to Troop 850, Mr. Rehm has helped fourteen troop members achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, three of whom are currently volunteering as assistant scoutmasters; and

Whereas, a worthy example to his troop, he himself as an adult leader has achieved induction into the Order of the Arrow, scouting's honor camping unit; and

Whereas, among other activities with his scouts, Mr. Rehm has led Troop 850 in volunteering at the United Way/Boy Scout cookout for the Miracle League sports event at Pepper Geddings, where the young men cook and serve hamburgers and hotdogs for lunch. This committed scoutmaster also has attended nearly all the troop's monthly campouts on weekends and has missed only one season of summer camp; and

Whereas, Mr. Rehm's volunteering is not limited to scouts. In 2005, he took sixteen City of Myrtle Beach employees to Waveland, Mississippi, where they installed thirteen thousand feet of twelve-foot water lines and a gravity sewer system to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina. On a return visit to Mississippi in 2007, he led ten city employees in clearing almost ten miles of ditches and bush hogging an additional thirty-six miles. In addition, through volunteer work for the United Way's Day of Caring, Doc Rehm has assisted North Strand Helping Hand, Horry County Disabilities and Special Needs, Horry County Shelter Home, Code Branch Children's Center, and other worthy organizations; and

Whereas, believing that faith should have feet and hands, he and his family serve their church, Myrtle Beach's Holy Lamb Lutheran, in various ways. The elder Rehms are particularly proud of son Steven's building the church a ten-by-twenty-foot shed, complete with garage door, for storage of lawn equipment and tents, as his Eagle Scout project. Their pride extends to son Parker, as well, who as a Boy Scout has just achieved the rank of Star, and to their daughter, Nicole, who has given them the delight of a grandchild, Sierra; and

Whereas, Mr. Rehm's commitment to enriching the lives and developing the character and leadership abilities of his troop members has earned him the well-deserved gratitude of both the young men and their parents; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing individuals who have fostered the youth of this great State and is privileged to join with Mr. Rehm's friends at the Boy Scouts of America in honoring his selfless, generous giving of time and talent to this worthwhile endeavor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express appreciation to Mr. Steven "Doc" Rehm for his eight years of dedicated service as assistant scoutmaster and scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 850 in Myrtle Beach.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. Steven Rehm.
