VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA GENERAL ASSEMBLY UPON THE DEATH OF MR. FRED S. BURGESS, OF WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. Fred S. Burgess, of Williamsburg County, on April 14, 2008, at the venerable age of eighty-two; and
Whereas, a native of Williamsburg County, Mr. Burgess was born October 10, 1925, to the late Sammie Burgess and Bessie Anderson Burgess. Young "Freddie," as he was sometimes called, received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County and spent many years self-employed as a painter; and
Whereas, very early in life, Fred Burgess accepted Christ as his personal Savior. In testimony to his Christian commitment, he faithfully served his God as a lifelong member of Greater Bethel AME Church, performing for several years the duties of trustee and usher; and
Whereas, predeceased by two children, Jerlene and Abraham, he leaves behind a loving and devoted wife, Geneva; daughters Virginia, Earlene, Fredena, and Hattie; sons Sammy and Theoplis, Sr.; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. Fred S. Burgess, of Williamsburg County, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Geneva Burgess.
