A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE SPARTANBURG CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BOYS' BASKETBALL TEAM FOR AN IMPRESSIVE SEASON, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES FOR WINNING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the Spartanburg Christian Academy boys' basketball team won the South Carolina Independent School Association State Championship title on March 1, 2008; and

Whereas, in an exciting match-up with Charleston Collegiate, the Spartanburg Warriors wrested the title from their opponents in an exciting 57-53 finish; and

Whereas, after holding the championship for the two previous years, Spartanburg Christian "three-peated" their success, much to the delight of their admirers and the disappointment of their adversaries; and

Whereas, the Warriors were unstoppable, with three seniors, Bryan Keeton, DeMorris Chambers, and Nate Morgan, averaging double digits and junior Mason Crow, the leading scorer, averaging almost twenty points per game; and

Whereas, Mason Crow, named All-Conference Player of the Year, surpassed the one thousand-point mark for his career by mid-December of his junior year, and shooting 82.5 percent from the free-throw line, he is nearly automatic; and

Whereas, in the past three years, the Warriors have not lost a conference game, and this year they accumulated five victories over much-larger public schools in class A, AA, AAA, and even AAAA; and

Whereas, Coach Kevin Padgett and Assistant Coaches Mark Pangel and Jason Robinson used their own athletic ability and experience to forge a championship team through relentless work in demanding practices; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives commend the team and coaches of Spartanburg Christian Academy for competing, as Saint Paul admonished in I Corinthians 9:24, in such a way as to receive the prize. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Spartanburg Christian Academy boys' basketball team for an impressive season, and congratulate the players and coaches for winning the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Rob McDonald and Coach Kevin Padgett.
