VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE CALHOUN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2008 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE PLAYERS AND COACHES ON A STELLAR SEASON.
Whereas, well prepared for the challenge, the Calhoun County High School boys basketball team crowned its superlative 29-0 season by capturing the 2008 Class A State Championship title, defeating Hemingway 67-66 at Columbia's Colonial Center on Saturday, March 1, 2008; and
Whereas, championship play in basketball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and
Whereas, using these talents and attributes, Coach Zam Fredrick, with the help of his assistant coaches, Tom Fredrick, Clyde Haynes, and Kay Brinkley, showed both fans and foes alike that the Saints' winning of this victory was no lucky accident; and
Whereas, in a demonstration of both poise and class, these tenacious athletes made it their third consecutive state championship, the team's back-to-back triumphs in 2006, 2007, and 2008 adding luster to a school record that includes a total of seven state wins for Coach Fredrick, now in his nineteenth season at the helm of Calhoun County's basketball program. Coach Fredrick is the first South Carolina High School League boys basketball coach to win seven state championships; and
Whereas, to crown all, the Saints set a new state record of seventy-eight consecutive wins, and Coach Fredrick was named Statewide Boys Basketball Coach of the Year by High School Sports Report. In addition, team member Alshon Jeffrey was named HSSR's Class A Player of the Year, guard David Glover, Jr., was named to the publication's Statewide All-State team, and guard Deandra Guinyard was one of four T&D Region players named to HSSR's Class A All-State team; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pleasure in recognizing the young men of the Calhoun County High School boys basketball team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and on the basketball court and expectS to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Calhoun County High School boys basketball team on its impressive win of the 2008 Class A State Championship title, and congratulate the players and coaches on a stellar season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Sheridan M. Hamilton and Coach Zam Fredrick, of Calhoun County High School.
