A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR LEON JOHNSON FOR HIS YEARS OF ACTIVE VOLUNTEER SERVICE ON THE DARLINGTON COUNTY TRANSPORTATION COMMITTEE, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE COMMITTEE, AND TO WISH HIM SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly have learned that Leon Johnson, of Darlington County, will retire from fourteen years of dedicated service on the county's Transportation Committee; and

Whereas, serving as its chairman for the first twelve years, Leon Johnson worked energetically as a volunteer to develop the Transportation Committee into the outstanding organization it is today; and

Whereas, in 1958, he graduated from St. John's High School in Darlington and then earned a bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, married to his loving wife Anne Auman Johnson for over forty years, he runs family-owned Palmetto Furniture in Society Hill, and they have two married daughters, who have blessed them with two precious granddaughters; and

Whereas, Leon Johnson has made many other valuable contributions to his community through his service on the Airport Commission and as an active member of the Lions Club, he also serves as a deacon at Welsh Neck Baptist Church; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are deeply grateful for the years of committed services that Leon Johnson has given to the citizens of Darlington County in organizing and directing the Darlington County Transportation Committee. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Leon Johnson for his years of active volunteer service on the Darlington County Transportation Committee, upon the occasion of his retirement from the committee, and wish him success and happiness in all his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Leon Johnson.
