TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE ASHLYN ELLEN RUCZKO, OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, ON BEING SELECTED TO RECEIVE THE 2008 JOHN DEWEY WINBURN, JR., SCHOLARSHIP AND TO WISH HER SUCCESS AS SHE EMBARKS ON HER COLLEGE CAREER AT CLEMSON UNIVERSITY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause to honor Ashlyn Ellen Ruczko of Chapin, the daughter of Tami and Richard Ruczko, who has been awarded the 2008 John Dewey Winburn, Jr., Scholarship; and

Whereas, Ashlyn Ruczko, an aspiring physical therapist, honor student, and cross country and track athlete at Chapin High School, will be attending Clemson University beginning in the 2008 fall term to pursue a degree in prerehabilitation sciences; and

Whereas, she has been a member of the National Beta Club and the National Honor Society for three years, has set a school record for the most cross country All-State finishes, and was chosen to the Golden Palmetto: All-Area Leadership Team by The State newspaper while participating in numerous service outreaches in the community and through Chapin United Methodist Church; and

Whereas, the John Dewey Winburn, Jr., Scholarship was established in 2006 by Representative Nathan Ballentine in honor of his maternal grandfather who passed away in 2000 and in furtherance of his commitment to return his legislative salary to the community. Mr. Winburn was a former schoolteacher and salesman and a Navy veteran of World War II. He loved high school football and served as a South Carolina football official for over twenty-five years; and

Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Ashlyn Ellen Ruczko of Lexington County, on being selected to receive the 2008 John Dewey Winburn, Jr., Scholarship and to wish her success as she embarks on her college career at Clemson University.
