A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR MR. DAVID F. SHEALY, OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, FOR MORE THAN FORTY YEARS OF DEDICATED VOLUNTEER WORK IN LEXINGTON COUNTY EMERGENCY SERVICES.

Whereas, David F. Shealy, a dedicated Lexington County Emergency Medical Services worker and the oldest still-active paramedic in the county, has devoted over forty years to ensuring the health and safety of his community through running emergency calls; and

Whereas, since the late 1950's, David Shealy has been volunteering his time to work with the sick and injured, beginning at a time when county ambulance service did not yet exist and calls were run with a funeral home hearse. Mr. Shealy joined forces with other concerned citizens in the Batesburg-Leesville area to obtain an ambulance and run volunteer rescue services; and

Whereas, when the county started ambulance service, the volunteer squad members, including Mr. Shealy, became backup in the Batesburg-Leesville area for the county; and

Whereas, following the death of his daughter, Debbie, in a 1972 automobile accident, this compassionate volunteer began to train in earnest to become an emergency medical technician and earned his certificate in 1978, becoming a paramedic in 1983; and

Whereas, for his committed service, David F. Shealy has received various state and local honors, including being named Distinguished Citizen by his community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Mr. David F. Shealy, of Lexington County, for more than forty years of dedicated volunteer work in Lexington County emergency services.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. David F. Shealy.
