A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-1-5 OF THE 1976 CODE, RELATING TO THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES, BY ADDING AN APPROPRIATELY DESIGNATED NEW ITEM TO PROVIDE THAT ALL SERVICES, PUBLICATIONS, PRINTED, AUDIO, AND VIDEO MATERIALS AND TESTS ADMINISTERED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES MUST BE PROVIDED IN AN ENGLISH-ONLY FORMAT UNLESS OTHERWISE REQUIRED BY FEDERAL LAW OR REGULATION.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 56-1-5 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding an appropriately designated new item to read:

"( )    All services, publications, printed, audio, and video materials, and tests administered by the department must be provided in an English-only format unless otherwise required by federal law or regulation."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
