A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CELEBRATE THE JOYOUS OCCASION OF THE ONE HUNDRED FORTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE NEW LIGHT BEULAH BAPTIST CHURCH AND TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND PASTOR GREGORY B. CUNNINGHAM AND THE CONGREGATION FOR THEIR YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE HOPKINS COMMUNITY.

Whereas, since its formation in 1867, New Light Beulah Baptist has stood as a beacon of the Gospel and has ministered not only to the spiritual needs of the residents of Hopkins but also to their material and social needs; and

Whereas, among their many notable services to the community have been the child-development program, meals on wheels, a clothing bank, an athletic league, and a tutorial program; and

Whereas, the church has exhibited its compassion for future generations by providing a large and nurturing daycare center for children of the community and has displayed its perspicacity by offering a scholarship fund for any members of the church seeking higher education; and

Whereas, the congregation has displayed its patriotism in that the last three pastors called by the church formerly served as chaplains in the United States military armed forces; and

Whereas, in these one hundred forty years, the church has had only twelve pastors who have joyfully served the congregation, which has exemplified the truth of "how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity" (Psalm 133:1); and

Whereas, New Light Beulah Baptist Church has come this far by faith. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate wish to celebrate the joyous occasion of the one hundred fortieth anniversary of New Light Beulah Baptist Church and to congratulate and commend Pastor Gregory B. Cunningham and the congregation for their years of service to the Hopkins community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to New Light Beulah Baptist Church of Hopkins, South Carolina.
