A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR RICHARD "DICK" HESTER, OF HORRY COUNTY, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE TO HIS COMMUNITY THROUGH THE NORTH MYRTLE BEACH LIONS CLUB AND FOR SEVENTEEN YEARS AS ITS SECRETARY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that Richard "Dick" Hester has faithfully served as the secretary of the North Myrtle Beach Lions Club for seventeen years; and

Whereas, born in 1935 in Bladenboro, North Carolina, Dick Hester moved to Ocean Drive in 1956 with his beloved wife Judy Edwards Hester, and they have three married children and six grandchildren; and

Whereas, a member of the Lions Club since 1959, he has served over the years within the organization in various capacities, including as president, vice-president, director, and secretary-treasurer, and he has been the secretary since 1991; and

Whereas, he has also served as a member of the board of directors of the South Carolina Eye Bank of the Lions Club for fifteen years and as its president from 1983-1984, and he has served within the Lions Club on numerous other committees that offer critical services to the community; and

Whereas, a veteran of the United States Navy, he served on the board of directors and as vice-president of the Greater Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, as well as on the Horry County Board of Education for twelve years, and was mayor of North Myrtle Beach from 1984 to 1989; and

Whereas, deeply involved in serving his community, he was the scout master of Boy Scouts of America Troop 805, served with the March of Dimes, and is a life member of the Garden Club of South Carolina; and

Whereas, serving in the Sunday school and on the board of deacons, he has been an active and caring member of Lakeside Baptist Church for forty-eight years; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are profoundly grateful to Richard "Dick" Hester for his commitment to the citizens of Horry County and for his years of service among them. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor Richard "Dick" Hester, of Horry County, and congratulate him for fifty years of service to his community through the North Myrtle Beach Lions Club and for seventeen years as its secretary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Richard "Dick" Hester.
