A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE NORTH AUGUSTA PRAYER LUNCHEON IN HONOR OF NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER, WHICH IS THE FIRST THURSDAY IN MAY OF EACH YEAR.

Whereas, beginning in 1989, Mayor Tom Greene invited people of all faiths to gather together in North Augusta at a prayer breakfast to offer prayer for local, state, and national leaders, as well as the armed forces; and

Whereas, Mayor Lark Jones has continued this tradition of a community prayer gathering to focus the citizens on a day of reflection in honor of all who serve; and

Whereas, in 2005, the gathering changed to a prayer luncheon, recognizing such former speakers as Governor David Beasley; Dan Cathey, CEO of Chick-Fil-A; David Shi, President of Furman University; Mark Richt, Head Football Coach at the University of Georgia; and Congressman Gresham Barrett. This year the group will welcome First Lady Jenny Sanford as speaker. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize the North Augusta Prayer Luncheon honoring National Day of Prayer, which is the first Thursday in May of each year.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the group gathering at the North Augusta Prayer Luncheon.
