A SENATE RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING FIRE CHIEF KERRY Q. TANNER FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF JOHNSONVILLE, THE PEE DEE AREAS, AND THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Chief Kerry Q. Tanner, Chief of the Johnsonville Volunteer Fire Department/District, is known and respected throughout the State of South Carolina for his knowledge of firefighting techniques, organization, management, and his dedication to the preservation of life and property; and

Whereas, Chief Tanner has served as a member of the Johnsonville Volunteer Fire Department/District for forty-four years, has served as Chief of the Department for the last thirty years, and has served as a South Carolina Fire Service Instructor for thirty-five years; and

Whereas, he is a member of the South Carolina Firefighters Association, has served as a Charter Member of the South Carolina Arson Task Force, is a member of the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs, and has served as a founding member of the Pee Dee Firefighters Association. In 2004, he received the prestigious Fritz Turner Fire Chief of the Year Award from the South Carolina State Association of Fire Chiefs; and

Whereas, he has been the recipient of numerous awards during his career, including recognition as Firefighter of the Year and as Honorary Fire Chief in two other fire departments within the State; and

Whereas, he has served with dedication as a member of the Johnsonville Town Council and as a Deacon in the Johnsonville Pentacostal Holiness Church. He has served faithfully as a Deputy State Fire Marshal, as Training Specialist for health care facilities for the South Carolina State Fire Marshal's Office, and as a Regional Supervisor for the South Carolina Fire Academy. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend Fire Chief Kerry Q. Tanner for his many years of outstanding public service to the citizens of Johnsonville, the Pee Dee areas, and the State of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Chief Kerry Q. Tanner.
