A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE HOLLY HILL ACADEMY "LADY RAIDERS" SOFTBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL ASSOCIATION CLASS AA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.

Whereas, the Holly Hill Academy "Lady Raiders" softball team defeated Pee Dee Academy 5-3 to capture the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship title; and

Whereas, Coach Henry Lockey and his assistants, Coach Rick Carpenter and Coach Ron Nester, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their softball program into a championship team; and

Whereas, championship play demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as teamwork and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using these talents and attributes, the team showed fans and foes alike that the Lady Raiders' winning of this victory was not a lucky accident; and

Whereas, this crowning victory caps an excellent 25-9 season for the Lady Raiders; and

Whereas, adding luster to an already stellar season filled with awards, Katie Carpenter and Brittany Cheek were named to the SCISA All-State Team, and Katie Carpenter, Brittany Cheek, Brittany Dantzler, Taylor Owens, and Brandy Lassiter were selected to play in the SCISA Class A-AA North-South All-Star game, which they won as players for the South team. In addition, High School Sports Report tapped Brittany Cheek and Taylor Owens for its All-State team and named Katie Carpenter as its Player of the Year and Coach Henry Lockey as its Coach of the Year. Coach Lockey was also selected to coach the South squad of the North-South All-Star game for the fifth time in his career. The entire group was honored in being named as one of only two South Carolina teams to play in Disney's Wide World of Sports Spring Training Tournament Series; and

Whereas, the Lady Raiders have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young women. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Holly Hill Academy "Lady Raiders" softball team for its outstanding season and for capturing the 2008 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA State Championship title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Headmaster John Gasque and Coach Henry Lockey, of Holly Hill Academy.
