A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA SENATE UPON THE DEATH OF MR. HENRY PARKS MOSS, JR., MAYOR OF RIDGELAND, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate were deeply saddened to learn of the recent death of Mr. Henry Parks Moss, Jr., mayor of Ridgeland; and

Whereas, first elected in May 2007 to fill Mayor Ralph Tuten's unexpired term, Mr. Moss was elected to a full four-year term in November 2007; and

Whereas, a graduate of Glynn Academy, Brunswick, Georgia, he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Georgia. He was the owner/principal of Moss Marine, LLC Consulting Firm of Ridgeland, and South Atlantic Real Estate Development, LLC of Ridgeland; and

Whereas, Mr. Moss worked as Beaufort city manager from 1970 to 1973 and was a former assistant city manager for Brunswick, Georgia. From 1990 to 2004, he served as Jasper County administrator, where he initiated the Jasper County port project on the Savannah River in 1990. The project is currently envisioned as a joint venture between South Carolina and Georgia. He also recruited and negotiated entitlements for Coastal Carolina Medical Center in Hardeeville and purchased the Sergeant Jasper State Park from South Carolina; and

Whereas, as a part of his committed involvement with the community, Henry Moss was past president of the Beaufort Rotary Club and a founder of the Jasper County Rotary Club; and

Whereas, he leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Jacqueline O. Moss; a son, H. Parks Moss III; three daughters, Elizabeth Ann Moss, Margaret M. Taylor, and Alison C. Hall; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Mr. Henry Parks Moss, Jr., Mayor of Ridgeland, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Jacqueline O. Moss for the family.
