To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 3207) to request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge that crosses Gaul Creek along South Carolina Highway 3 in Allendale County "Clement O. McIntosh, Sr. Bridge", etc., respectfully
That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE BRIDGE THAT CROSSES GAUL CREEK ALONG SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 3 IN ALLENDALE COUNTY "CLEMENT O. MCINTOSH, SR. BRIDGE" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS BRIDGE THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "CLEMENT O. MCINTOSH, SR. BRIDGE".
Whereas, Mr. Clement O. McIntosh, Sr., was born on June 9, 1905 in Fairfield County, the son of the late Boston Dean and Sarah Ann Ford McIntosh, and died on December 28, 1991; and
Whereas, he was married to the late Hersell N. McIntosh and together they were the proud parents of five children who they reared together on the family farm which they purchased and operated in Allendale County for almost forty years; and
Whereas, Mr. McIntosh received a diploma from Voorhees College in 1924, his Bachelor of Arts degree in Agriculture from South Carolina State College in 1951 and his Masters in Education degree from South Carolina State College in 1956; and
Whereas, devoting fifty years of his professional career to the field of education in South Carolina, he served as Principal of Edgefield County Training School from 1924 to 1932, Principal of Bettis Junior College's High School Department in Edgefield County from 1933 to 1936, Principal of Centenary Elementary School in Marion County from 1937 to 1938, Principal of Saint Mark Elementary and High Schools in Allendale County from 1939 to 1957, Principal of Allendale Training Elementary School in Allendale County from 1958 to 1960, Principal of Fairfax Training School in Allendale County from 1961 to 1969, Assistant Principal of Allendale Middle School in Allendale County from 1969 to 1972, and Director of the Allendale County Adult Education Program from 1978 to 1980; and
Whereas, Mr. McIntosh was a member of the Palmetto Education Association, Allendale County Teachers Association, South Carolina Education Association, and former Executive Secretary of the South Carolina Agriculture Association; and
Whereas, he was a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church in Fairfield County and served as a Sunday School teacher at Happy Home Baptist Church in Allendale County, and a member of the Lower Savannah River Council on Aging; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper to memorialize this son of South Carolina who devoted more than fifty years of his life to the field of education in this State, with thirty-five years of this service occurring in Allendale County, by having the bridge that crosses Gaul Creek along South Carolina Highway 3 in Allendale County named in his honor. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge that crosses Gaul Creek along South Carolina Highway 3 in Allendale County "Clement O. McIntosh, Sr. Bridge" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this bridge that contain the words "Clement O. McIntosh, Sr. Bridge".
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
