TO CONGRATULATE THE LANDRUM HIGH SCHOOL LADY CARDINALS VOLLEYBALL TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2006 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, DENISE RISKE, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL SEASON.
Whereas, excellence in volleyball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and
Whereas, putting those talents and attributes into action, Coach Denise Riske and the members of the Landrum High School Girls Volleyball Team capped an incredible season by winning the 2006 Class A State Championship; and
Whereas, fiercely competitive, the team was virtually unstoppable during regular season play, earning a record of twenty-two wins and only two losses, and scoring 952 kills, 551 aces, and 1,965 digs; and
Whereas, ahead by one point in the final game of the championship match, senior Brittany Pace served up an ace to set up the match point, and senior Kayla Wilson delivered the final, game-winning serve; and
Whereas, throughout the season the team showed great confidence, attributable to Head Coach Denise Riske and Assistant Coach Leigh Denton, whose time and energy spent encouraging their team to play to their individual and collective abilities necessarily led to their successes; and
Whereas, members of the award-winning team included Brittany Pace, Caroline Cann, Kirsten Stewart, Sarah Bruce, Alissa Fiorillo, Alex Darby, Kayla Wilson, Jordan Corn, Molly Corn, Erica Doty, Megan Riske, Allie Pressley, and Claire Sellers; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pride in commending the young women of the Landrum High School Girls Volleyball Team for their tireless efforts and great determination in this incredible season and recognize them for this wonderful accomplishment. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Landrum High School Lady Cardinals Volleyball Team on its impressive win of the 2006 Class A State Championship, and honor the players and their coach, Denise Riske, on an exceptional season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the school officials, athletes, and coaches of the Landrum High School Girls Volleyball Team.
