TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE PORTION OF SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY 45 IN BERKELEY COUNTY FROM ITS INTERSECTION WITH UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 17 TO A POINT EIGHT MILES EAST OF THIS INTERSECTION THE "REVEREND ROBERT 'BOB' SNIDER, JR. HIGHWAY", AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS ALONG THIS HIGHWAY THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "REVEREND ROBERT 'BOB' SNIDER, JR. HIGHWAY".
Whereas, Reverend Robert "Bob" Snider, Jr., was born on November 8, 1942, in Berkeley County, the fifth child of the late Mr. Robert Snider, Sr., and the late Mrs. Lucinda Ramsey Snider, and entered into eternal rest on July 27, 2007; and
Whereas, he received his early education in the public schools of Berkeley County. He received his theological training at the L. R. Nichols Theological Seminary Extension in Charleston, South Carolina, and his professional law enforcement training at the South Carolina Police Academy and Trident Technical College; and
Whereas, his career in the field of law enforcement allowed him to become known by many people throughout Berkeley County and the State; and
Whereas, Reverend Snider became the first African-American Chief of Police in the Town of Jamestown, and retired from a successful career as a law enforcement officer with thirty-two years of dedicated service; and
Whereas, he was a faithful member of Wesley African Methodist Episcopal Church in Shulerville, South Carolina, where he served as an associate minister, and later as the second assistant pastor; and
Whereas, Reverend Snider was married for over forty years to the former Ms. Inez Lampkin, and together they were blessed with three sons and one daughter; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to name a portion of South Carolina Highway 45 in Berkeley County after this son of South Carolina and faithful servant of God. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the portion of South Carolina Highway 45 in Berkeley County from its intersection with United States Highway 17 to a point eight miles east of this intersection the "Reverend Robert 'Bob' Snider, Jr. Highway", and erect appropriate markers or signs along this highway that contain the words "Reverend Robert 'Bob' Snider, Jr. Highway".
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
