A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE LANDRUM HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR CAPTURING THE 2007 CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO CONGRATULATE THE COACHES AND PLAYERS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY.

Whereas, on November 3, 2007, the Landrum High School Lady Cardinals won the 2007 Class A State volleyball championship at Dutch Fork High School in Columbia; and

Whereas, in a spirit of sportsmanship led by team captains Allie Pressley, Megan Riske, and Kirsten Stewart, the athletes from both teams joined hands to form a single circle and prayed together for one another's safety; and

Whereas, the Lady Cardinals held their admirers and adversaries alike in suspense during a five-game, overtime, down-to-the-wire victory over the Johnson High School Lady Flashes; and

Whereas, having won the state championship in 2006, the Lady Cardinals were trained to survive the abundance of highs and lows that characterized the match from the beginning to the end; and

Whereas, to excel in volleyball requires agility, skill, tenacity, and strength, which the Lady Cardinals have displayed in winning seasons and state championships for the past two years; and

Whereas, Coach Denise Riske and her assistant, Leigh Denton, employed their athleticism and motivational skills in order to coach their players to another state championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Landrum High School varsity volleyball team for capturing the 2007 Class A State Championship title, and congratulate the coaches and players for an outstanding season and championship victory.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal Brian Sherman and Coach Denise Riske.
