A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE BRAD DEAN, PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OF THE MYRTLE BEACH AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, FOR HIS SUCCESSES IN ATTRACTING BOTH THE REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY DEBATES TO THE GRAND STRAND OF THE PALMETTO STATE.

Whereas, Brad Dean grew up in Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois; and

Whereas, now of Murrells Inlet, Brad Dean, was hired as the chief financial officer of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce in 1997 and has served as the president and chief executive officer since 2003; and

Whereas, he directed the planning and the execution of the South Carolina Republican Party Presidential Candidates' Debate on January 10, 2008, and the Congressional Black Caucus Institute Democratic Presidential Primary Debate on January 21, 2008; and

Whereas, to showcase the beauty and entertainment of Myrtle Beach as a vacation resort, Brad Dean organized the creation of two presidential sand sculptures for the events, which brought considerable publicity to the city; and

Whereas, he worked in cooperation with numerous agencies, such as South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Secret Service, members of Congress, and the South Carolina General Assembly, to ensure that Myrtle Beach would be selected as the host community for the debates and that both debates transpired with grace and efficiency, for which our State is so well known; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to note that, through his success in organizing two presidential debates in less than two weeks, Brad Dean brought national attention to the Grand Strand. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Brad Dean, president and chief executive officer of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, for his successes in attracting both the Republican and Democratic presidential primary debates to the Grand Strand of the Palmetto State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Brad Dean.
