Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Mr. William C. Pitts, of Sumter County, on January 28, 2008; and

Whereas, William C. Pitts, born in Durham, North Carolina, to the late Haynsworth Pitts and Helen Burkett Pitts, was graduated from Thomas Sumter High School and the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, he was a former co-owner of the Pitts-Lowder John Deere Company and a former salesman for McLaughlin Motors; and

Whereas, as part of his committed involvement with the community, Mr. Pitts served as a former Sumter city councilman and was a former president of the Sumter County Gamecock Club and Sumter Shag Club. He was also a current board member of the Dalzell Grange, a member of Wise Drive Baptist Church, and a former longtime member of Alice Drive Baptist Church; and

Whereas, he leaves a son, Jeremy Haynsworth Pitts; a daughter, Allison Pitts Rogers, and her husband, Jason; a granddaughter, Sydney Grace Rogers; and other relatives; and

Whereas, his loyalty and dedicated service to family, friends, and community were admired by all who knew him and established him as a pillar of Sumter County. He will be sorely missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Mr. William C. Pitts, of Sumter County, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.
