A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE BLACKVILLE-HILDA HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM, OF BARNWELL COUNTY, FOR A WINNING SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE 2007 DIVISION II CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE SUCCESS OF THE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to commend the Blackville-Hilda Fighting Hawks for finishing the season with eleven wins and only three losses and for their 14 to 7 victory in the 2007 Division II Class A State Championship football game; and

Whereas, on November 23, 2007, in a come-from-behind win over their Red Devil rivals from Great Falls, the Fighting Hawks won the respect of admirers and adversaries alike by overcoming an early 7 to 0 lead for Great Falls; and

Whereas, through the benefit of demanding practices and relentless work, the Fighting Hawks maintained a grueling ground game against their Red Devil opponents for the entire game; and

Whereas, for the second time in three years, Blackville-Hilda has returned from a state football championship game with the title, making the 2007 win their seventh state title on the gridiron, in a game that demands strength, determination, and skill; and

Whereas, led by coaches who have used their own athletic ability and experience to forge a championship team, the Blackville-Hilda varsity football team has brought great pride and recognition to the school and community with the 2007 game victory and state championship title. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate the Blackville-Hilda High School varsity football team, of Barnwell County, for a winning season and for capturing the 2007 Division II Class A State Championship title, and honor the success of the players, coaches, and staff.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Principal Elliott Willingham and Coach David Berry.
