CONGRATULATING THE BERKELEY HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM ON ITS FIRST-PLACE FINISH IN THE SOUTH CAROLINA STATE HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION.
Whereas, the thirteen-member Berkeley High School Mock Trial Team out performed teams from thirteen other state high schools to win the 2008 South Carolina State High School Mock Trial Competition in Columbia in March; and
Whereas, the team improved on its third-place finish in last year's competition by impressing a panel of volunteer lawyers and judges with its presentation skills; and
Whereas, Berkeley High School has now won eight state mock trial championships, more than any other school in the State; and
Whereas, the team is representing South Carolina in the National High School Mock Trial Competition May 8-10 in Wilmington, Delaware; and
Whereas, a project of the South Carolina Bar's Law Related Education Division, the mock trial district and state programs were judged by more than sixty lawyers who volunteered their time and expertise; and
Whereas, the Moncks Corner school's top team is composed of: Caitlin Bailey, Kayla Biller, Jessica Bryant, Skyler Carr, Sarah Carter, Jessica Hodges, Thomas Horton, Melissa Anne Jackson, Jane Landis, Amanda Nesmith, Ben Pollins, Daniel Prohaska, and Cooper West. Their teacher coach was Kelli Antes, and their attorney coaches were the Honorable Jack A. Landis and Elizabeth Warner. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Berkeley High School Mock Trial team on its first-place finish in the South Carolina State High School Mock Trial Competition.
