Whereas, Larry Wells, Sr., born in Lynchburg on October 10, 1922, to Duffie and Lula Robinson Wells, was educated in the public schools of Sumter County; and
Whereas, as a young man, Mr. Wells answered the call of his country to serve in the United States Army, where he earned the rank of technical sergeant and served in Battery B, 395th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion during World War II. He was proud to serve his country; and
Whereas, following his military service, Mr. Wells married Ruth Gamble, and the couple parented five daughters, Evelyn, Carolyn, Trudell, Ruth, and Veryl. After his first wife's passing, in 1970 Mr. Wells wed Earther L. Warren, a union that added to the family a son, Larry Wells, Jr., and two stepsons, Alexander and Jason Warren; and
Whereas, creative, hardworking, and skillful, this longtime entrepreneur worked in construction and helped build the interstate highways and bridges the citizens of our great State use today; and
Whereas, Larry Wells, Sr., was a faithful member of Asbury United Methodist Church and the Masons (Jordan Lodge No. 338), as well as an associate member of Berean Baptist Church in Lovejoy, Georgia; and
Whereas, in addition to his beloved wife of thirty-seven years and six children, he leaves nineteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends; and
Whereas, his loyalty and devotion to his family, his friends, his work, and his country were admired by all who knew him and established him as a pillar of the community. He will be sorely missed. Now, therefore,
