A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE CHAPIN GARDEN CLUB FOR ITS VOLUNTEER WORK IN THE CHAPIN COMMUNITY, AND TO CONGRATULATE JUANITA MOTELY, SHOW CHAIRMAN, AND THE MEMBERS UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR SEVENTIETH ANNIVERSARY.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that the Chapin Garden Club celebrated its seventieth anniversary on April 25 and 26, 2008, at The Greater Chapin Chamber of Commerce; and

Whereas, the celebration featured a standard flower show, Chapin's Celebration of Beauty, with a reception on April 25 for the Chapin Chamber of Commerce members and their guests and with an open house for the public on April 26; and

Whereas, with Mr. Alvin Frick as its president, the Chapin Garden Club began in 1938 and had as its original purpose to focus local attention on beautifying Chapin; and

Whereas, in 1945, the Chapin Garden Club federated with the Garden Clubs of South Carolina and began the first of its many outstanding flower shows; and

Whereas, over the club's seventy-year history, many beautification projects have been continued, such as filling three permanent flower boxes on the highways entering Chapin, decorating the Chamber House for Christmas, and delivering flower arrangements to Generations, the local assisted-living complex; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are grateful for the work of the Chapin Garden Club over the past seventy years and appreciate their continued endeavors to beautify their community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Chapin Garden Club for its volunteer work in the Chapin community, and congratulate Juanita Motely, show chairman, and the members upon the occasion of their seventieth anniversary.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Juanita Motely.
