TO HONOR AND CONGRATULATE MR. AND MRS. FURMAN RAYMOND YOUNGINER, OF LEXINGTON COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF THEIR SIXTIETH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY, AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MANY MORE YEARS OF BLESSING AND FULFILLMENT TOGETHER.
Whereas, in a time when faithfulness to marriage vows is eschewed, Louise O'Sheal Younginer and Furman Raymond Younginer reached the benchmark of sixty years of wedded fidelity on May 2, 2008; and
Whereas, life-long residents of Irmo, Louise and Furman Younginer raised five fine children, Miriam Y. Lovett, Caroline Y. Sojourner, Ann Y. Gunning, Paul F. Younginer, and Lucy Y. Austin, who have blessed them with ten grandchildren and one great-grandson, all of whom reside in Irmo; and
Whereas, a veteran of World War II, Furman Younginer served the Town of Irmo for twenty-six years as a councilman and mayor, while Louise Younginer served for eighteen years as town clerk; and
Whereas, employed as assistant secretary/treasurer of CSX Railroad, Furman Younginer retired after forty-two years of faithful service; and
Whereas, the Younginers were volunteer consulting historians and contributing writers for Irmo and the Dutch Fork Legacy and have made numerous presentations to school and civic groups about the history of Irmo and the Dutch Fork area; and
Whereas, Louise and Furman Younginer are recognized as the honorary Irmo Town historians, and they contributed the Hall of History display in the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce to preserve the history of the area; and
Whereas, Furman Younginer has received numerous awards in recognition of his service to the citizens of South Carolina, including the Order of the Palmetto from the Governor, which is the State's highest civilian recognition, and the "Twenty-First Century Award" and the "Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service" from the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce; and
Whereas, no success authenticates a life as does a marriage that endures the test of time and that grows stronger with each passing year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, honor and congratulate Mr. and Mrs. Furman Raymond Younginer, of Lexington County, upon the occasion of their sixtieth wedding anniversary, and extend best wishes for many more years of blessing and fulfillment together.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. and Mrs. Furman Raymond Younginer.
