A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF DEACON RUBIN "JAKE" FRAZIER, JR., OF BEAUFORT COUNTY, AND TO EXTEND THE DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Deacon Rubin "Jake" Frazier, Jr., of Beaufort County, on May 22, 2008; and

Whereas, Jake Frazier, born in Beaufort on June 6, 1931, to Rubin and Dolly Frazier, was educated in the public schools of Beaufort County and employed with Beaufort County Roads and Bridges; and

Whereas, in 1958, Mr. Frazier received Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Second Mount Carmel Baptist Church in Burton. He was later ordained as a deacon and served as Sunday School superintendent and was a member of the church choir and male chorus. In his early years, he was a member of the Gospelites and various other gospel groups in the community; and

Whereas, in his later years, he was instrumental in the founding of Aunt Pearlie Sue and Gullah Kinfolk. As a member of Gullah Kinfolk, Deacon Frazier traveled extensively throughout the East Coast and Midwest. Known as a lead vocal singer, historian, mentor, and inspirator full of energy, he possessed a memorable persona and melodious voice; and

Whereas, married to Miriam Ethel Jenkins Frazier since March 24, 1956, he shared with her fifty-two years of happiness and contentment, the Lord blessing their union with eight children; and

Whereas, in addition to his beloved wife, he leaves four sons, Arnold, Rubin III, Harold Lee, and Bryan Dennis; four daughters, Bernice Castillo, Annette Frazier, Kathleen Frazier, and Stephanie Smith; two sisters, Martha Rhodan and Rebecca Hall; two brothers, Thomas Frazier and Joe "Billy Boy" Frazier; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends; and

Whereas, his loyalty and devotion to his family, his friends, and his God were admired by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Deacon Rubin "Jake" Frazier, Jr., of Beaufort County, and extend the deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Miriam Frazier for the family.
