VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO AMEND RULE 1 OF THE RULES OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, RELATING TO THE SPEAKER AND THE SPEAKER PRO TEMPORE, SO AS TO IMPOSE A LIMITATION OF TWELVE CONSECUTIVE YEARS ON A PERSON SERVING AS SPEAKER OR SPEAKER PRO TEMPORE AND TO PROVIDE FOR RE-ELIGIBILITY.
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That Rule 1 of the Rules of House of Representatives be amended by adding:
"1.13 A person elected Speaker or Speaker Pro Tempore may not serve more than twelve consecutive years in either office, but is re-eligible after service of the maximum term.
A person is re-eligible to serve as Speaker or Speaker Pro Tempore if there is intervening time after his maximum term where he does not serve in either office."
Be it further resolved that Rule 1.13 is effective with the Organizational Session of 2010.
