TO AMEND THE CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, BY ADDING SECTION 57-3-612 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT A HIGHWAY FACILITY DEDICATED AND NAMED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SHALL CARRY THIS DESIGNATION FOR FIVE YEARS; AND BY ADDING SECTION 57-3-613 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION MUST OBTAIN APPROVAL FROM THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY BEFORE IT NAMES A HIGHWAY FACILITY IN HONOR OF AN INDIVIDUAL.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Article 7, Chapter 3, Title 57 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 57-3-612. A road, bridge, or other highway facility that is dedicated and named by the department in honor of an individual shall carry this designation for a period of five years from the date that it is dedicated and named."
SECTION 2. Article 7, Chapter 3, Title 57 of the 1976 Code is amended by adding:
"Section 57-3-613. The department must obtain approval from the General Assembly before it names a road, bridge, or other highway facility in honor of an individual."
SECTION 3. Section 1 of this act takes effect upon approval by the Governor. Section 2 of this act takes effect five years after approval by the Governor.
